Sterile Filtration

Sterile filtration is a process used to remove microorganisms (like bacteria, fungi, and some viruses) from liquids or gases by passing them through a very fine filter—without using heat or chemicals.

It is widely used when you need a product to stay sterile but not be damaged by high temperature, such as in medicines, vaccines, and biological products.

🧫 What is Sterile Filtration?

Sterile filtration means:

  • Pushing a fluid through a microporous membrane filter

  • The filter traps microorganisms

  • The filtered liquid is collected as sterile (microbe-free)

👉 It is a physical separation method, not a killing method.
