What is an aggregation database, and what is its use?
An aggregation database is a database design or structure, which stores precalculated summary or aggregated data in it - in other words, it is designed to store aggregated data rather than raw transactional rows. This way, it can accelerate the process of querying summary information (such as overall sales by region) since the system does not have to such summaries in real-time. This is highly beneficial when dealing with data warehouses where the speed of performance and analysis is of paramount importance.
