Can a professional polish fix sun damaged paint or do I need a full repaint?

I need some honest advice from people who know about car detailing because I'm really confused about what to do with my car. I have a 2014 Toyota Camry that has been parked outside for most of its life because my building doesn't have enough shaded parking spots. Over the past year I've noticed that the paint on the roof and the hood has become really dull and faded, almost like there's a white haze on top of the original black color. Washing doesn't help at all and waxing only makes it look better for maybe a day or two before it goes back to looking dull. I took my car to a detailing shop in Al Quoz and the guy told me that a heavy polish would remove the oxidized layer and bring back the shine for about 800 dirhams. But then I asked another shop and they said that if the clear coat is already damaged, polishing might make it worse or the results won't last more than a few weeks. Now I don't know who to believe and I'm scared to waste money on something that won't actually fix the problem. A friend of mine suggested that I should just check out this page now to understand what my options are before making a decision, but I still want to hear from real people who have dealt with similar paint issues. So my question is very simple. Has anyone here actually taken a car with badly faded paint to get professionally polished and seen long lasting results? Or did the shine fade away again after a month and you regretted spending the money? Also, if polishing isn't the right solution for sun damaged paint, what should I do instead? I don't have thousands of dirhams for a full repaint but I also hate looking at my dull car every day. Any honest advice from people who have been through this would be really appreciated. Thanks so much.
