What is TWRP and why do you need it?

TWRP stands for Team Win Recovery Project, which is an open-source software that allows you to perform various operations on your Android device, such as flashing custom ROMs, kernels, mods, backup and restore data, wipe partitions and more. TWRP is also a touch-based recovery, which means you can use it without any physical buttons. TWRP is one of the most popular and widely used custom recoveries for Android devices.

By installing TWRP on your Samsung Galaxy A20, you can enjoy the benefits of rooting your device, such as removing bloatware, installing custom ROMs, tweaking system settings, improving performance and battery life, and more. However, rooting and installing TWRP also involves some risks, such as voiding your warranty, losing your data, bricking your device and more. Therefore, you should proceed with caution and follow the instructions carefully.

How to root and install TWRP on Samsung Galaxy A20?

Before you start, you need to prepare some things:

  • A Samsung Galaxy A20 device with at least 50% battery level.

  • A Windows PC and a USB cable.

  • Download and install Samsung USB drivers on your PC.

  • Download and install Odin tool on your PC.

  • Download the latest TWRP recovery image for your device model from [here].

  • Download the Magisk zip file from [here] and copy it to your device's internal storage.

  • Enable USB debugging and OEM unlocking on your device. To do that, go to Settings > About phone > Software information and tap on Build number seven times to enable Developer options. Then go back to Settings > Developer options and enable USB debugging and OEM unlocking.

  • Backup your important data before proceeding.

Once you have everything ready, follow these steps:

  • Rename the downloaded TWRP recovery image to recovery.img (twrp-a20-3.3.1-0_afaneh92.img to recovery.img).

  • Convert the recovery.img to recovery.tar using 7zip.

  • Right-click on boot.img (that you copied from phone) and choose Add to archive.

  • Select tar as archive format and click OK.

  • Download the vbmeta.tar from [here] and add it to recovery.tar by following the same as step 3.

  • Boot your Galaxy A20 into download mode and connect it to your PC using a USB cable. To enter download mode, power off your device and press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons together until you see a warning screen. Then press Volume Up to continue.

  • Launch Odin tool on your PC and make sure that your device is detected by Odin. You should see an "Added!" message in the log window.

  • Click on the AP button in Odin and select the recovery.tar file that you created earlier.

  • Make sure that only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options are checked in Odin. Do not check any other options or change any settings.

  • Click on the Start button in Odin and wait for the flashing process to complete. You should see a "PASS!" message in Odin when it is done.

  • Your device will reboot automatically after flashing. As soon as it reboots, press and hold Volume Up + Power buttons together to enter TWRP recovery mode.

  • In TWRP, swipe to allow modifications if prompted.

  • Select Install from the main menu of TWRP and navigate to the Magisk zip file that you copied to your device earlier.

  • Swipe to confirm the installation and wait for it to finish.

  • Once the installation is done, tap on Reboot System to restart your device.
