The picture in it self is good looking but it dosnt tell much and i cant really see a Character Concept here.

The underfolk do look scared :P, and since they're three of them and the main characters in the game where three i think it makes it pretty clear that the rabbit is the so called monster from their perspective.
I like everything except the rabbit and that the bottommost underfolk isn't giving the expression of acctually looking at the rabbit, which i think is very important.

I assume from your description that "the underfolk"-guys are the actual characters you want to bring forth. If not, then I'm a bit puzzled by the description.
Very nice image though. Perhaps you should try to make it more apparent which are the characters in this image. (Image itself seems to focus on the rabbit)

Its a very nice game environment concept, but I would try to focus much more on the rabbit itself since the competition theme is "game characters". Keep it up and remember that the final dead-line is not until march 9.
